What is S.O.A.R.?
TMA’S reading enrichment program which is designed to promote a love for reading and build reading skills. Students in grades 2 through 5 select S.O.A.R. titles (there are over 1600!), read the books during the school year, and take multiple choice tests in the Computer Lab. Points are earned on every passed test and go toward individual goals, which are recognized in the Lingo. New challenges are happening all of the time and announced in the Lingo.
When are S.O.A.R. tests taken?
Tests are taken during school. It is a student’s responsibility to let their teacher know when they are ready to take a test.
Are there rules? Yes!
- Students must read books on their grade level or higher.
- The student, not teacher or parent, must read the books.
- A book can only be tested on once. No retakes!
- Books must be read during the current school year.
- Students must have the written title or the book with them to take a test.
- Students must score at least 80% to earn points.
How can you tell if a book is on the S.O.A.R. list?
S.O.A.R. books are marked in the TMA library with yellow tape noting the grade level. A complete S.O.A.R. list can be viewed online, in the Computer Lab, and in the Library.
